Dionysia Adamopoulou
My practice moves between painting, mixed media and monotype, taking the body and the relationships that shape it as its starting point. Female and maternal experience informs an exploration of care, loss and memory. Forms sometimes retain their outlines and at other times persist as imprints, fragments or voids.
I test the limits of materials through the ways they transform and resist. Through pressure, transfer, layering and reassembly, the surface retains the traces of its making. Materials from earlier works return in new compositions, carrying their own histories and serving as remnants of a process that is both material and introspective.
I am interested in the tension between the effort to hold on to a presence and the change that has already taken place. The surface appears vulnerable and persistent, while memory takes shape through what remains, returns or enters into different relationships.
Dionysia Adamopoulou (b. 1993) is a visual artist based in Athens, Greece. She is currently studying at the Athens School of Fine Arts under the guidance of Professor Xagoraris and holds a degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
In 2024 she published her first poetry collection, “Shades of Motherhood” (Τα Χρώματα της Μητρότητας), exploring themes of maternal identity and transformation. Her work has been presented in exhibitions in Greece and abroad and is held in private collections and the public collections of Lamia Hospital and FES Kantza. She is a member of the visual art associations “Μεσογαία” and “ΣΚΕΤΚΕ”.
